Overview

The Relief Veterinarian provides preventative care, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries of pets. Responsibilities include ensuring safety of pets, clients and associates, obtaining medical history, maintaining medical records, and educating clients on preventative care and services. Essential Responsibilities And Tasks

Ensure the safety of pets, clients and associates by using safe restraining techniques, following standard protocols and maintaining clean, sterile and organized treatment areas, exam rooms and labs. Obtain relevant information and history from clients and maintain proper and complete medical records. Educate clients about preventative care, pet health needs, diagnoses or treatment, hospital services and related information. Provide professional, efficient and exceptional service including prescribing and administering preventative care for wellness and diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries of pets. Effectively communicate diagnosis and treatment plan to the veterinary medical team and client. Ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws, including maintenance of the controlled substance inventory log. Understand and follow state guidelines regarding duties of veterinary assistants and licensed veterinary technicians. Other job duties as assigned. Hiring Qualifications

Compassionate commitment to Pet care: presents treatment options and fees as an advocate for the pet and gains client agreement to the best treatment. Mathematical ability: basic math, unit conversions. Computer skills: proficient with common software (Word, Excel, Outlook). Management ability: enforces policies and maintains high productivity and morale.

Special Working Conditions

Comfort around pets (dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc.). Possible hours exceeding 40 per week including weekends and evenings. English reading, writing and speaking proficiency; ability to reason, remember and perform calculations. Moderate to high noise level; ability to carry out written or oral instructions and solve multi-variable problems. Physical requirements: ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb and lift up to 50 pounds; good hand-eye coordination and visual acuity. Potential exposure to pets, anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medications/controlled substances; minimal travel may be required.

Experience, Education And/or Training

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required. License in good standing with the applicable state veterinary board. License with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) required. Proven ability to perform all basic surgeries using standard instruments and equipment. EEO Notice
