Operation Director Vector Control, Bureau of Veterinary and Pest Control Services
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Division of Environmental Health works to prevent and control illness and injury related to environmental and occupational health risks through outreach, education, surveillance and enforcement. The Division of Environmental Health seeks an Operation Director Vector Control for its Bureau of Veterinary and Pest Control Services Office of Vector Surveillance and Control. DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO: Developing strategic operational plans and overseeing all aspects of field activities to support the City's comprehensive vector control efforts. Serving as a key liaison for the program, addressing public concerns and coordinating with officials from other city agencies to support a unified response to vector-related issues. Maintaining the integrity and accuracy of vector surveillance and control data; ensuring staff proficiency in using the Vector and Arthropod-borne Disease Surveillance System (VADSS). Overseeing and enforcing occupational health and safety protocols, including pre-season training, field safety procedures, and ensuring staff access to appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Developing and implementing community outreach and education programs focused on West Nile virus and other vector-borne diseases, with an emphasis on mosquito and vector breeding site reduction. Coordinating and managing the full range of larviciding and adulticiding operations, including aerial and ground-based applications. Supervising inspection teams conducting standing water assessments; ensuring timely response and resolution of public complaints related to mosquito breeding conditions. Preferred Skills: Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills. 5 years of supervisory experience in vector surveillance and control. Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is highly desirable. Minimum Qualifications: A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 30 semester credits in the physical and/or biological sciences. At least two years of satisfactory full-time experience performing inspections to assure compliance with pertinent laws, rules and regulations governing the areas of food, drugs and general environmental conditions.
