As a Data Center Automation Engineer, you will play a key role within Design Group’s Control System Integration Practice. You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers, power systems specialists, and subject matter experts to deliver high-reliability automation and monitoring solutions for mission-critical data centers. Your responsibilities will include contributing to the technical standards for Building Automation Systems (BAS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), and control architectures—driving operational excellence, scalability, and energy efficiency. What You’ll Do
Design, engineer, and program Data Center BAS and EPMS, with expertise in platforms such as Rockwell Studio 5000, Inductive Automation Ignition, Siemens, or Schneider, and standards like BACnet and Modbus. Manage the full lifecycle of BAS and EPMS projects—from requirements gathering to implementation, commissioning, and client handover. Guide teams on BAS and EPMS design standards, using industry knowledge and trends. Develop enterprise-wide standards for building automation and power monitoring, focusing on scalability, cybersecurity, redundancy, and operational efficiency. Work closely with clients to translate their needs into engineered solutions, maintaining effective communication and building long-term relationships. Evaluate emerging BAS/EPMS technologies to enhance system resilience, energy efficiency, and fault diagnostics. What You’ll Bring
At least 5 years of engineering experience in building automation, EPMS, and controls in mission-critical environments, especially data centers. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Control Systems Engineering. Proficiency with BAS and EPMS platforms and PLCs such as Rockwell Studio 5000, Ignition, Siemens, or Schneider, and standards like BACnet and Modbus. Experience with field instrumentation, industrial networking, system integration, Panel Design, and SCADA architectures. Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with technical teams and clients. Strong troubleshooting skills and an analytical mindset. Willingness to travel for project activities, including FAT/SFAT and commissioning. Knowledge of datacenter/mission critical commissioning requirements (L1-L5) and greenfield construction experience. Interest in emerging control system technologies and team collaboration. Proficiency with version control systems like Git or SVN. Project management and SCADA design experience are a plus.
