Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Lactation Specialist to join our team! Job Summary
Provides support, encouragement, and education for breastfeeding mothers and infants in antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. Performs specialized lactation assessment and charts findings. Educates staff members with up-to-date evidence-based education regarding infant feedings, lactation, formula, and assistive devices. Notifies appropriate care providers on abnormal assessments and concerns regarding the mother and infant, and can make appropriate suggestions to help maintain safety and a good outcome. Benefits

Duties And Responsibilities
Actively promotes breastfeeding and assists mothers in reaching their own goals for breastfeeding. Provides direct patient care in labor delivery, postpartum, and inpatient settings. Performs specialized latch and breastfeeding assessment and evaluation. Develops and implements standards of care and guidelines for assisting breastfeeding mothers in all areas of the organization where they might be served (OB/GYN, post-surgical, employee health). Supports programs that are already in place such as support groups and breastfeeding classes. Organizes information and posters for activities to promote breastfeeding. Plans, oversees and coordinates patient, family and staff breastfeeding education activities in coordination with the maternal child department. Communicates with providers regarding mother-infant abnormal assessment (issues with milk supply, abnormal infant findings, problems with infant weights, jaundice, SGA, etc.). Maintains a reference library of breastfeeding materials for health-care providers and interested mothers. Keeps files of journal articles and references on lactation. Provides antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum classes on breastfeeding, breast care and related topics to inpatients and/or outpatients in group or one-to-one settings. Assesses patient and family emotional, cognitive, and social status relative to learning and determines educational needs and priorities; adjusts teaching plan accordingly and evaluates effectiveness. Documents education and progress in accordance with hospital standards. Accepts consults for education of patients and families in inpatient settings. Evaluates equipment related to breastfeeding and maintains the breastfeeding room. Supports hospital employees who are breastfeeding. Coordinates staff education activities related to mother-baby care and ensures competency documentation. Establishes and maintains follow-up for mothers and infants; patient contact may be via phone, inpatients, or letters. Recognizes sub-optimal changes in status and reports to physician; consults other departments for interdisciplinary care. Completes required paperwork; demonstrates ability to work under stress and in emergent situations. Maintains departmental policies, safety, infection control standards; treats patients and families with respect and dignity. Interacts professionally and involves patients and families in care planning; reevaluates as needed. Maintains good working relationships within the department and with other facilities; uses electronic medical records and hospital intranet. Participates in ongoing education and professional development; attends staff meetings and educational programs. Performs other related duties as assigned; wears hospital ID; adheres to chain of command and hospital policies. About Mountain View

Note:
The candidate must be a current International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or have at least 1 year of experience on a mother/baby unit with breastfeeding education and assistance and have completed the Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) program with a certificate. Preference is given to CLC who continue education to become IBCLC. Proof of completion of the following courses is required at time of hire or within designated time frame: CPSI electronic medical record training; BLS Healthcare Provider; Neonatal Resuscitation program within 3 months; ACLS within 6 months; STABLE within 12 months; PALS/PEARS within 12 months. Experience:
At least 1 year in a mother/baby unit with breastfeeding education and assessments. Equipment/Technology:
Basic computer skills; ability to use infant scale, vital signs machine, radiant warmer, and respiratory equipment. Language/Communication:
Excellent communication and leadership capabilities. Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations and calculate drug dosages. Mental Capabilities:
Critical thinking, organization, and safety-focused problem solving; ability to interpret instructions and manage multiple variables. Interpersonal:
Ability to work well with others; de-escalation skills and leadership abilities. Performance:
