The main function of a Supplier Quality Engineer is to serve as the technical liaison between purchasing, product engineering, internal manufacturing, and external suppliers. The role is responsible for resolving supplier manufacturing issues, implementing advanced quality planning systems, and providing technical support throughout the lifecycle of a commodity. Job Responsibilities

Assure supplier understanding and compliance with APQP processes and PPAP submission/approval requirements. Review and approve supplier quality plans for new component parts and assemblies. Review supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems. Implement and monitor supplier part qualification and certification processes. Determine root cause of supplier manufacturing problems and implement effective resolutions. Improve quality performance of suppliers through onsite workshops, technical assistance, and system development. Provide technical support during supplier launch, change-over, and ongoing production. Skills

Strong knowledge of automotive systems (interior, exterior, body, chassis, electrical, or powertrain). Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Manufacturing Quality, and Tool Engineering processes. Familiarity with Quality Systems Planning (APQP), including PPAP. Ability to perform statistical problem solving (Red X, DFSS, DMAIC). Proficient in print reading, interpretation, part measurement, and gage design. Knowledge of GD&T, probability, statistical quality control, and design of experiments. Ability to investigate quality problems and develop sound technical solutions. Project management experience leading cross-functional teams. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to travel up to 50% (daily commutable and overnight combined). Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Chemical Engineering (required). Master’s degree in Business Administration or Engineering (preferred). Technical and Quality Certifications preferred. 10+ years of relevant experience required. This position supports an automotive assembly plant with a focus on supplier quality and engineering issues on the off shift. Key Duties

Partner with Production teams to contain engineering and supplier quality defects. Document supplier issues and initiate containment actions at supplier facilities. Manage containment activities through third-party providers as needed. Supervise 3–4 hourly employees in Supplier Action Center (SAC). Create task instructions for SAC activities including sorting, inspection, and rework. Provide end-of-shift reporting and communication with other Quality Engineers. Monitor and track supplier quality defects. Represent Quality in production meetings. Requirements

10+ years in automotive engineering, quality, or manufacturing. Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills. Ability to manage complex tasks independently. Strong problem-solving and Microsoft Office skills. Willingness to work up to 2 Saturdays per month. Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Manufacturing. Proficient in GSIP, ECM, Excel, PRTS, SPPS, GQTS, Teamcenter, MPDs, and Microsoft Office. Red-X Journeyman / technical problem-solving experience.
