Overview The Control Room Operations Team Leader reports directly to the Plant Manager and directs, leads, and supervises a team of operations personnel in a cross-functional multi-craft, multi-skilled plant environment at a Fossil power plant who share responsibility for its safe, efficient, and reliable operation. This position directs, plans, and coordinates plant operations and staffing to meet site production needs. This role champions employee and contractor safety programs, drives continuous improvement in plant operations and maintenance, and participates in budget development and the effective management of allocated financial resources. It designs, develops, implements, and evaluates programs using metrics and key results review.
Responsibilities
Safety, compliance, budgeting, reliability, and all other aspects of plant operations
Provide direction to operations/maintenance personnel, schedule shift resources, and manage staffing
Lead and develop direct reports to support a culture of strong operation and maintenance fundamentals
Support human performance improvement initiatives related to accountability, coaching, and feedback
Ensure compliance with safe work practices and plant procedures; operate and maintain plant equipment efficiently
Develop procedures, checklists, and performance measures to monitor process controls and regulatory requirements
Develop, implement, and maintain high standards of performance through procedures, rounds/trending, shift turnover, protection system functionality, water chemistry, and maintenance procedures
Work with System Planning Organization (SPO) to maximize plant production, schedule unit testing, outages, and communicate operational issues
Build and maintain relationships with internal/external interfaces and strategic partners
Stay aware of industry research to drive continuous improvement
Provide and support budget/project development and cost control for short-range and long-range planning
Prepare and manage budgets to control deviations from the approved annual budget
Lead end-to-end contract management/contractor oversight for routine and outage work
Identify and close gaps aligned with the company’s business strategy
Refine operating procedures, training plans, alarm management, and other operations/maintenance fundamentals using lessons learned
Provide leadership and technical direction for unit troubleshooting; liaise with vendors, OEMs, and subject matter experts to improve performance
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Education :
High school diploma or equivalent
Preference for bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent work experience (e.g., 10 years of power plant experience)
Minimum Experience :
With technical degree: 5+ years of Power Plant Operations/Maintenance or engineering experience
Without degree: 10+ years of power plant experience
Desirable: Experience with a fossil power plant
Desirable: 2+ years of supervisory experience
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities :
Extensive knowledge of power plant operating and maintenance practices, equipment maintenance strategies, lock out/tag out procedures and other safety practices
Ability to communicate and work effectively with contractors and outside agencies
Ability to engage subordinates and plant personnel to strive for operational excellence
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent communication abilities
Ability to address complex problems quickly with creative solutions
History of accountability for results
