Overview

Under the direction of the Director, the Assistant Director is responsible for a broad range of administrative functions and comprehensive program services for Financial Aid. Travel may be required, as this position will work on both the Gloucester and Cumberland Campuses. Responsibilities

Assists the Director by providing leadership, supervision, training, and evaluation of staff to facilitate the achievement of program objectives. Provides oversight to ensure awards are made in a timely manner in accordance with institutional, federal, and state policies. Assists in developing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the financial aid function and processes and facilitates communications about departmental activities, events, deadlines, and timelines. Reviews federal and state regulations governing financial aid and makes recommendations to the Director on implementation of policies into college-wide procedures. Provides assistance, as needed, to the Director with electronic processes, implementation and maintenance of new technologies and other related issues (e.g., professional judgements, dependency overrides, Return to Title IV calculations and various reports required by the institution, federal, and state governments). Corrects rejected Pell grants and Direct Loan files and reconciles Federal aid programs. Assists with award reconciliation, adjustments, and Return of Title IV calculations. Assists with Satisfactory Academic Progress procedures and chairs the appeals committee. Counsels current and prospective students and their families through appointments, presentations, and off campus events of the various types of financial aid programs available to them. Assists with integrating financial aid information and providing training opportunities to other departments within the college. Attends appropriate on-campus and off-campus workshops, seminars, and other professional meetings and is involved in professional organizations regarding financial aid to foster exchange of techniques and program improvements. Manages confidential information with a high level of confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and College policies. Creates reports for all aid programs and assists in coordinating annual financial audits for internal, federal, and state agencies. Performs other duties, as assigned. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Student Personnel Services or related field required. Three years’ experience in Student Services, Financial Aid experience preferred. Previous direct leadership and supervisory experience. Working knowledge of federal and state aid program regulations/requirements. Experience with higher education software in Financial Aid, Ellucian products or Anthology preferred. Knowledge of FAA access to CPS, NSLDS, and COD and NJFAMS. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Ability to work a flexible schedule with varied hours to meet department and College needs. Ability to travel between multiple campus locations and state to attend meetings, utilizing personal vehicle. Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, and colleagues and community partners. Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student-centered environment.
