Overview
Manager, Pre-Planning at Sturgeon Electric Company, Inc. The Pre-Planning Manager leads the Pre-Planning Department, ensuring major projects are reviewed for constructability, prefabrication opportunities, and efficiency. The Manager oversees the Pre-Planning Specialists, manages department workflows, and drives the implementation of best practices across projects. The role includes participating in project planning by performing constructability reviews, guiding BIM integration, and developing prefab strategies to improve field productivity and standardized methods company-wide. Responsibilities Prefab Opportunity Identification
Review all awarded projects over $6M.
Identify scope items suited for prefabrication using BIM models, design intent, and historical prefab catalogs.
Collaborate with estimators and PMs to establish prefab goals early.
Integration with BIM
Attend BIM kickoff meetings and coordination sessions.
Lead the coordination of BIM outputs into buildable prefab spool packages.
Ensure constructability is verified before detailing.
Coordination with Prefab/Manufacturing
Bridge between project teams and the prefab shop.
Track and ensure implementation of prefab plans in the field.
Develop visual workflows and dashboards to track prefab progress.
Standardization and Catalog Development
Build and maintain an internal Prefab Catalog (fixtures, underfloor whips, racks, trapeze, bent conduit, standardized assemblies).
Integrate catalog into a virtual ordering portal for PMs and field foremen.
Define usage standards for assemblies to create estimating predictability.
Procurement Collaboration
Identify grouped buyout opportunities across multiple projects.
Collaborate with procurement to issue kit-based purchasing for prefab assemblies.
Help package material with BOMs based on prefab models for improved pricing and logistics.
Process Development
Create internal SOPs and workflows for prefab planning and execution.
Define handoffs between estimating, precon, BIM, prefab, field, and procurement.
Facilitate lessons learned sessions to continuously improve the process.
Enhanced Kickoff Process
Work with project leadership to facilitate the Enhanced kickoff meeting.
Participate in the following enhanced kickoff meetings and preinstall meetings.
Occasional travel may be required to project locations in Colorado
Regular and predictable attendance
Other duties as assigned
Essential functions of this position are to be performed at a Company-designated office or field location
Qualifications
About You Completion of an electrical construction apprentice program or holder of a valid state electrician license/certification or 4 years field experience as a journeyman electrician, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Revit experience and detailed understanding of its processing including setting up and maintaining jobs, files, families, schedules and work sets
Strong commercial/industrial electrical background is preferred to understand constructability of electrical systems
Lean Manufacturing experience is a plus
Minimum 2 years of experience leading large projects ($2 million or larger)
Minimum 5 years of experience in construction planning, detailing, or BIM coordination
Minimum 5 years of experience in the electrical construction industry
Preferred Education High school diploma or GED
Degree in Construction Management, Design, Engineering, Planning or similar discipline; combination of relevant education and experience considered in lieu of degree
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Advanced skills in BlueBeam and computer trends/technology
Strong knowledge of Navisworks, Revizto or other modeling software
Excellent organizational and analytical skills
Knowledge of NEC electrical Codes
Team player and collaborative attitude
Ability to manage other employees
