Florida State University is currently in the leadership phase of a comprehensive campaign. As the leadership phase of the campaign begins, the Division of University Advancement is accelerating the hiring of additional Gift and Estate Planning professionals campus-wide and is excited to build out its team. For Advancement professionals who are interested in being a part of a comprehensive campaign from the beginning for their career development, the timing is ideal to join our team.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement a personalized solicitation program to generate philanthropic support for Florida State University’s academic programs.
Focus on maximizing identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of planned giving prospects and donors, with the goal of securing commitments of $100,000 or more.
Fundraising
Manage a portfolio of research-based planned giving prospects with a giving capacity of $100,000+ and collaborate with College, School, and Unit (CSU) development staff to cultivate and solicit planned giving commitments from alumni and friends, and stewardship.
Travel frequently to meet with alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends of FSU.
Record meetings, interactions, and planned giving data in the Foundation’s database promptly, maintaining confidentiality.
Partner with donors and their professional advisors to create plans that align philanthropic, financial, and estate planning objectives with the University’s mission.
Prepare timely and accurate gift annuity and charitable trust illustrations and related documents for donors, their advisors, and CSU development staff.
Serve as staff liaison with assigned colleges/units, offering expertise on deferred gift instruments and prospect strategy.
Exhibit and promote a comprehensive understanding of the philanthropic priorities of FSU, effectively matching the specific interests of prospects to those needs.
Communicate FSU's mission and represent its values to external stakeholders. Collaborate with Donor Relations to steward members of the James D. Westcott Legacy Society.
Training and Educational Initiatives
Assist in providing educational and training opportunities for development staff on the functions of planned giving.
Assist in the development and execution of regionally based planned giving seminars for external constituents.
Administration/Events
Plan and initiate direct activities with prospects to enhance affiliation between the prospect and the University.
Negotiate gift agreements, prepare, and present proposals.
Prepare correspondence with prospects and document communications, solicitation activity, and gift information in accordance with University Advancement reporting guidelines and FSU’s Gift Acceptance and Counting Policies.
Facilitate meetings, communications, and coordination with FSU faculty and academic leadership.
Create, inspire, and maintain donor loyalty through stewardship communications and activities recognizing the impact of their gifts.
Implement a stewardship plan that may include letters, updates on unit or university initiatives, invitations to activities, meetings, events, student engagement, or campus visits.
Assist with organizing and hosting the annual Westcott Society luncheon in Tallahassee and other educational events.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and five years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and nine years of experience. (Note: a combination of post-high school education and experience equal to nine years.)
Must have a valid Florida or Georgia Driver's License, or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
Must be able to travel frequently.
