This position works primarily in the field as a Party Chief of a two- or three-person field crew, managing and directing survey field operations.
Responsibilities
Provide direction to field crew members on project tasks during day-to-day field operations. Mentor and train crew members in surveying methods and equipment usage and maintenance. Record crew timesheets daily. Perform mathematical calculations and check field data for accuracy. Take accurate and clear notes with sketches. Read and understand civil and construction plans and specifications. Maintain field equipment, tools, and vehicles. Check and verify the work of the team for accuracy and completeness. Obtain land survey data such as angles, elevations, points, contours, and boundaries using data collectors, Total Stations, Robotic Total Stations, levels, and GPS-RTK Receivers. Complete assigned fieldwork for projects such as construction staking, topographic surveys, and boundary surveys. Record and transmit field data and information to the office in the appropriate format.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED certification or relevant work experience may be substituted in lieu of education. At least 6 years of experience on a field crew. Experience in boundary, topographic, and construction staking. Ability to recognize the most efficient and safest methods for acquiring survey data. Proficiency in the operation of surveying instruments, including levels, Total Stations, Robotic Total Stations, and GPS-RTK Receivers. Knowledge of basic measurement errors, monumentation, and construction staking principles. Must be able to work in all types of weather and terrain and lift up to 35 lbs consistently. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Dependable, reliable, and effective in team settings.
