Job Summary:
The Aircraft Mechanic II - Structures will primarily perform all scheduled and unscheduled aircraft and equipment maintenance, both on and off equipment, on assigned aircraft and equipment in accordance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS), M1 policy, DAFI 21-101(and supplements), as well as industry standards.
Primary responsibilities
include but are not limited to the following:
Maintains repairs/modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty.
Maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applying required expertise in restoring equipment condition and/or operation.
Applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints or manufacturers' manuals.
Job requirements
include thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts, broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair, basic knowledge of electrical theory, and thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers. This job requires working knowledge of technical publications. The incumbent may receive guidance from supervisor or higher-level technician and occasionally lead teams through more complex tasks, and may make entries in aircraft logs and records. Must be able to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
Qualifications and Experience :
Minimum of five years performing aircraft structures maintenance functions in a military environment; attainment of an Air Force 5 level (or equivalent) is required. Three years' experience on F-117A highly desired.
Must be reliable, self-motivated, and able to handle stressful situations and timelines while maintaining professionalism.
Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts.
Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
Basic knowledge of electrical theory.
Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers.
Working knowledge of technical publications.
Must be able to obtain/maintain the security clearance level as mandated by the government customer.
Maintains qualifications contained on the Special Certification Roster (SCR) as directed.
Must possess a current valid U.S. Driver's License and be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
High school diploma or GED is required.
Working Conditions
Position may require commuting/travel; work in aircraft hangars and on aircraft ramps near running equipment.
Ability to work days, nights, weekends, or overtime shifts as required.
May work outdoors, in hot or cold weather; may be exposed to contaminants and hazardous conditions (e.g., on scaffolding or ladders) and loud noise.
Will be required to utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety toe footwear and safety glasses.
