Main Responsibilities Instrument Database Management

Creates and controls changes of instrument records and coordinates with approvers for timely processing

Ensures accuracy of data

Defines and creates guidelines for inputs and general content

Completes review of calibrations in a timely manner

Identifies areas for data management process improvements to increase efficiency and quality

Technical Analysis

Leads Root Cause Analysis (RCA) efforts for instrumentation

Leads Risk Management efforts for instrumentation

Ensures collection of proper data to support failure analysis

Communicates frequently with deviation investigators and end users

Evaluates instrument and system costs long term including installation/maintenance costs vs. potential failure costs

Performs instrument life-cycle assessments

Parts/Instruments Availability

Creates stock quantities aligned with supporting analysis

Assists Reliability Engineer with Functional Equivalent efforts for Metrology

Collaborates with Stores to develop economical alternatives for long lead time items (stocking agreements, standardization, etc.)

Promotes standardization of site instruments and instrument installation

General Responsibilities

Supports the change management system through completion of action items

Acts as metrology lead for deviations in the area of responsibility

Supports/Leads corrective and preventive action plans

Reviews functional and criticality assessments for new and existing instruments

Supports/leads safety initiatives

Authors SOPs/SWI as a technical writer

Provides technical guidance to instrument technicians (requires working in production areas)

Maintains training as current and presents training materials and instrument-related communications

Is the main technical contact for end users, Quality and Maintenance in the area of responsibility

Attends coordination and shutdown meetings with end users and others as required

Assists and backs up other instrument engineers

Supports field-related activities (approximately 20%): deviation GEMBAs, troubleshooting, instrument walkdowns, and project activities

About You Education & Experience & Certifications:

Bachelor's Degree required (engineering or science preferred) with 3–5 years of relevant experience; an Associate's Degree with 5–10 years of relevant experience, or 10+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degree; preferably in a large-scale biotech or pharmaceutical industry

Solid understanding of current maintenance and metrology best practices and common issues in Metrology

Familiarity with CMMS (e.g., ProCal), SAP, and data historian programs is a plus

Experience with specification and calibration of instruments such as pressure, temperature, weight, flow, conductivity, chlorine, pH, timers and humidity is preferred

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to actively and cooperatively work with cross-functional teams

Physical Requirements & Special Working Conditions

Frequent movement around the site and into production areas is an essential function

Key Involvement in Decision-Making Process A: Instrument database management and data integrity

RCA: Root cause analysis and corrective actions for instrumentation failures

I: Reliability strategy and processes for instrumentation (FMEA, RCA, CAPAs)

I: Identification and prioritization of instrument-related CI initiatives

A: Technical guidance for instrument technicians and end users
