About This Role:
Veranex has an exciting opportunity to join the Human-Centered Industrial Design team. You will be leading and supporting client projects that span early conceptualization through development and commercialization of MedTech, drug delivery, and diagnostics systems and products. This role reports to the Director of Human-Centered Industrial Design and collaborates with Research, Design & Human Factors teams globally. As a Human-Centered Industrial Designer 2 (HCID 2), you will be responsible for representing and advocating for the user to deliver thoughtful design solutions that meet user needs, mitigate risk, and delight clients. You will be part of a cross-functional team considering all aspects of design and development to move designs through a phased-gate process towards production. You will partner with Project and Functional Leads, Industrial Designers, Design Engineers, UX/UI Designers, Human Factors and an array of different engineering disciplines to develop MedTech products from concept to commercialization. The ideal candidate should be an innovative, creative, and well-organized self-starter. Passionate for delivering adaptive and creative solutions to design problems by staying up to date with best practices and emerging trends in industrial design, usability, form development, color, material, finish, and prototyping. What You Will Do: Lead and support the industrial design of medical and healthcare devices and technologies for client projects in the MedTech space. Create compelling design solutions that align user, technical, and business needs of the project. Ensure consideration of all user experience elements for usability, enabling technology, and client business goals. Apply exceptional visual design and communication skills on active client projects. Support activities and deliverables such as concept generation, refined concept solutions, visual brand language and form development, 2-D and 3-D renderings, animations, prototypes, specification packages, and client presentations. Support critique and reviews to create intuitive and effective products and experiences by use case. Collaborate with Research & Strategy and Human Factors Engineers to translate insights and user feedback into design solutions. Present design solutions to clients with clear design intent and plan design activities for HCID team success on client projects. Advise on client relationships as a design lead or supporting designer and support project goals. Develop client presentations capturing the design process and value of design solutions with tradeoffs. Plan activities to meet tight deadlines, coordinating with Directors and senior designers to deliver within timeline and budget. Support and build team culture and discipline expertise; receive guidance from senior designers and leadership. Participate in fostering a collaborative team through conceptualizing comprehensive product design solutions and sharing knowledge. Engage in business development awareness and understanding of proposal, sales, and marketing activities. Act as an ambassador in the Industrial Design community to establish leadership. Qualifications Required Skills & Experience BFA, BS, BA, or BID in Industrial Design or another related technical field. 2-4 years of relevant work experience in Industrial Design. A portfolio of professional design work showcasing process, skills, and experiences. Proficiency with 2-D and 3-D visual communication tools and software including Adobe Creative Suite, Sketchbook Pro, Procreate, SolidWorks, Rhino, Miro, Figma, and Microsoft 365. Strong ability to communicate visually and tell design stories. Experience developing client presentations that capture design process and design solution tradeoffs. Assistance with usability testing of early design prototypes and capturing user feedback for integration into the system. Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Skills & Experience Experience in the design of medical devices and products. Experience collaborating with User Researchers and with design research methods (contextual inquiry, heuristics, formative and summative studies). Experience collaborating with Human Factors Engineers to inform design with ergonomic considerations and best practices. Experience collaborating with engineers across development programs; basic knowledge of working mechanisms and construction methods.
