Position Title
Sales Engineer – Hammer Mills and Custom Industrial Equipment (Food, Feed, Biomass, and Pet Food Systems)
About the Role
Midwest Custom Engineering is looking for a hungry, technically sharp Sales Engineer with direct experience in selling hammer mills and dryers, ready to help manufacturing companies turn processing challenges into profit. We specialize in American-built hammer mills, dryers, conveyors, and full process systems designed for food, feed, pet food, biomass, and recycling industries.
If you're the type who can walk into a plant, ask the right questions, and help the customer visualize a better way of doing things—especially with hammermill and dryer solutions—we want you.
This role blends high-commission sales, engineering problem-solving, and relationship building. You'll work directly with decision-makers—plant managers, project engineers, owners—and help them win by making their operations more efficient, productive, and profitable through our hammer mills and related equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Prospect and qualify new leads across food, feed, and biomass industries
Conduct discovery calls, site visits, and virtual walkthroughs
Create and present technical proposals with support from engineering
Close deals on custom systems, parts, and aftermarket service
Maintain pipeline in CRM and hit or exceed monthly and quarterly targets
Represent MCE at trade shows and client meetings
Help shape marketing messages and customer education strategies
Key Skills & Experience
Direct experience in selling hammer mills, preferably recent or current, with one of our direct
2–5+ years in B2B industrial or equipment sales
Comfortable selling technical solutions with variable pricing
Strong mechanical intuition (you don’t need to be an engineer, but it helps)
Familiar with drying systems, air systems, or processing lines a plus
Self-starter, excellent communicator, and team player
Thrives in a flexible, freedom-based work environment
Willing to travel (20–30%)
Compensation Package
Base Salary: $45,000 – $80,000 (based on experience)
Commission: 2–5% of gross sales, uncapped
Total Comp Potential: $150,000+ annually
Bonuses: Performance bonuses for high-margin deals, new accounts, and quarterly milestones
