Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA (PHS/SPCA) is a local, private, non-profit charitable organization dedicated to animal welfare. It is our mission to build healthy relationships between people and animals. PHS/SPCA is an open admission shelter, accepting many pet animals and caring for injured and orphaned native wildlife from San Francisco through San Mateo and the northern half of Santa Clara County. A firm believer in humane care and kind treatment of animals. You have a variety of animal handling experience with cats, dogs, hamsters, and more. You are comfortable with labor-intensive animal husbandry work and enjoy working in a team environment. Essential Responsibilities

Provide humane care for all animals in the Peninsula Humane Society's care Clean and disinfect all animal areas to maintain a safe and sanitary environment Feed and ensure water is available at all times for all animals Unload, store and restock Animal Care Department supplies Certified in Euthanasia within six months of employment (in-house training) Perform humane euthanasia in accordance with agency policies and California laws as needed Perform owner present euthanasia as needed Perform decapitations on select animals per health department guidelines as needed Perform proper disposal of deceased animals Perform light maintenance and other janitorial duties Assist in the training of new staff and volunteers Provide assistance to other departments as assigned Ensure a positive public image by supporting behind-the-scenes operations Work to help improve the quality of life for animals Qualifications

Upon hire, must pass a background check Valid California Driver’s License with a clean record High school diploma or GED; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs Must have the ability to manage the emotional aspect of end-of-life services and support staff in high-emotion circumstances Must have a flexible schedule and the ability to work weekends, holidays, swing shift and graveyard shift as needed Benefits
