Department overview: The respiratory care discipline at Children’s Minnesota provides cutting-edge clinical and diagnostic services, including the development of clinical treatment protocols for patients with cardiopulmonary disorders. Respiratory care staff collaborate with nursing and physician professionals and participate in clinical and operational processes, education, and research activities. Position Summary The Sr Respiratory Therapist performs respiratory care duties under the supervision of the medical director. The role requires adaptability to the duty assignment area and the ability to perform special duties as required. All procedures are performed in accordance with established policies and procedures. The Sr Respiratory Therapist demonstrates advanced knowledge of cardiopulmonary physiology and related sciences, and has thorough understanding of respiratory care drugs. The position requires mature judgment, accuracy, and strong communication with physicians, nurses, other staff, patients and families. Verbal ability to explain procedures is essential.
Responsibilities Perform respiratory care procedures in accordance with policies and procedures. Participate in clinical and operational processes, education of peers and patients, and research activities. Contribute to airway management, ventilatory support, asthma education, point-of-care testing, cystic fibrosis management, and emergency respiratory interventions. Serve as part of the rapid response and code teams as applicable. Maintain commitment to safety, teamwork, and high-quality patient care.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Licensed with the State of Minnesota as a Respiratory Therapist.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) by The National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) examination completed.
PALS, NRP certified.
Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care Specialty (NPS) certification.
Education
Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program.
Experience
Minimum 2 years of experience as a respiratory therapist or respiratory intern.
1 year of critical care experience.
Compensation and Benefits The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. When determining individual pay rates, factors include market indicators for the role, skills, education, credentials, experience, internal equity and organizational needs. In addition to salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Night, weekend or on-call work may qualify for shift differentials or premium pay.
