Job Summary:
The Clinical Nurse B - Inpatient provides, coordinates, and documents age-specific and developmentally appropriate patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Performs the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) following LLUMC's Professional Practice Model (Duffy's Quality Caring Theory). Embraces new knowledge and applies theoretical concepts to clinical practice, demonstrating self-motivation to expand clinical skills, especially in the area of specialty and patient population. Exhibits professionalism and maximizes customer service and safe patient care. Functions in a skills mix environment, supervising and delegating tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff. Meets qualifications, licensure, certifications, and competencies as outlined in the unit-specific Plan for Providing Care. Contributes to a caring and cooperative work environment among a diverse workforce and patient population. May participate in on-call rotations and serve as Shift Coordinator after orientation. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) required. If hired before April 1, 2020, an Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing is required. Minimum of one year of experience is required. New hires may be promoted to CN-C classification upon meeting specified criteria.
Knowledge and Skills:
Demonstrates basic clinical nursing competencies. Applies theoretical concepts and continually expands knowledge and skills in the specialty area. Knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation standards. Maintains professional behavior, works calmly under pressure, and communicates effectively. Skills include: speaking, reading, and writing in English (Spanish preferred), using computer software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical records), troubleshooting patient care equipment, performing technical activities, effective communication, leadership, critical thinking, independent work, basic math, workload management, organization, problem-solving, attention to detail, sensory discernment, and physical abilities necessary for patient care.
Licensures and Certifications:
Active California RN license required. BLS certification from the American Heart Association required. Additional certifications as specified in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care.
