Base pay range: $43.00/hr - $53.00/hr.

Under supervision, this class of engineer performs work of average difficulty involving technical and professional work making design layouts, engineering calculations, and miscellaneous studies for land development projects; work involves the preparation of design layouts, sketched details for construction work, and the performing of engineering calculations for areas, loads, stresses, flows, and other technical criteria; work is performed under general supervision of an advanced engineering position that reviews accomplishments through conferences and inspections; and performs other work as required. Hourly pay range is $43-$53, plus benefits. Pay range varies dependent on applicable experience and software proficiency.

This is a full‑time position at our main office in Bakersfield, California. This is not a remote position.

Duties / Responsibilities

Prepare plans, specifications, contract documents, and cost estimates for the design and construction of land development infrastructure including storm drains, hydraulic structures, street improvements, ADA path of travel, pipelines, minor structural projects and ground‑water facilities.

Prepare contracts and specifications for design.

Prepare cost estimates for design projects.

Prepare applications for land division projects, and submittals to agencies for plan reviews, write letters pertaining to the construction of projects.

Carry out inspection of construction projects.

Execute original design layouts from sketched details for incorporation in completed construction drawings.

Perform engineering calculations to determine measurements and areas of ground, loads, and stresses of structures, and gradients and flows of pipes.

Direct or carry out inspections of construction projects.

Supervise survey parties.

Collect field data for a variety of construction and maintenance projects.

Prepare calculations and designs for small structural project such as retaining walls, and equipment foundations.

Perform or check routine quantity calculations and make or check engineering estimates. Interface with clients via email or in meetings and perform other work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduated from an ABET accredited college or university with a degree in engineering AND EIT and minimum five (5) years experience in the practice of civil engineering, OR;

Possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training Certificate from the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers AND minimum five (5) years’ experience in the practice of civil engineering.

Knowledge of the modern principles and practices of civil engineering; mathematics and physics as applied to engineering; modern methods in the construction and maintenance of infrastructure; topographic and construction surveying, hydrology, stress analysis, and analytical mechanics and the strength, properties, and uses of construction materials.

Ability to prepare accurate drawings, maps, and technical reports; use engineering and drafting equipment; understand and operate office personal computers.

Ability to make or check complex engineering computations quickly and accurately; ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of technical subordinates.

Skill in the use and care of drafting and surveying instruments, and in the use of mathematical tables required in professional engineering work.

Knowledge of California building codes for ADA path of travel requirements, both in the public ROW and on public accessible sites.

Knowledge of California Plumbing code for site sewer and water system.

Software Knowledge Requirements

Basic Knowledge of Autocad Civil3d Software package and design tools.

Intermediate Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and Power Point).

Basic Knowledge of Hydrology Software.

Basic Knowledge of Hydraulics Software.

Basic Knowledge of Structural Software.

Time Management Engineers at all levels are expected to be able to effectively manage their time. This includes accurate logging of hours to time tracking software. Being aware of time limits on projects and alerting their supervision of changes is scope that will affect hours spent on projects. Engineer II’s are expected to be able to accurately estimate the time required to complete tasks they are familiar with.

Physical Requirements Ability to frequently move about inside the office. Must be able to remain in a stationary position throughout much of the working day. Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment. Ability to work outdoors, in varying temperature conditions. Must be able to move items up to 25 lbs.
