We’re looking to add a
Failure Analysis Engineer
located in
Austin, TX . The
Failure Analysis Engineer
reports to the
Test Engineering Manager
and is responsible for implementing and maintaining cost‑effective troubleshooting methods for systems, software, and equipment, and for proposing and implementing solutions for critical issues to ensure customer satisfaction and maintain a healthy inventory of repair or manufacturing processes. The role tasks with increasing technical knowledge, developing training plans for technical staff, ensuring flexibility across projects and technologies, and monitoring and improving technician efficiency and effectiveness indicators.
Typical Day
Directs and coordinates electronic engineering and/or technical personnel in design of methods of failure analysis, testing, and test control apparatus and equipment, or software and systems testing.
Directs and coordinates electronic engineering activities concerned with development, procurement, installation, and calibration of instruments, equipment, and control devices required to test, telemeter, and record test data.
Directs and coordinates the strategies of debugging the failed product of the test process.
Defines conditions and procedures under which technicians are conducted and indicators and phases of the debug process.
Interfaces and confers with scientific, engineering, and technical personnel to resolve testing and troubleshooting problems such as failures of product or system malfunctions, incomplete test data, failure analysis reports, new solutions, obsolete components data interpretation, or coding issues.
Evaluates and interprets failures data and prepares technical reports for use by electronic or software engineering, and management personnel.
Trains and instructs floor support, debug technicians and test operators on test hardware and/or software, failures solutions, and proper problem‑solving techniques.
Performs examination of root causes, developing and coordinating corrective action measures and monitoring improvements.
Develops and monitors the efficacy and efficiency metrics to improve diagnostic process.
Provides technical documentation and tools for diagnostic purpose.
Functional
Develops and/or supports diagnostic tests at the card edge level.
Supports improvements to functional test hardware.
Develops test plans and procedures.
Coordinates third‑party development of functional test development and enhancements.
Systems & Software
Evaluates and interprets software or system level diagnostic failure (software and hardware).
Develops and/or modifies software or system level plans and tests.
Develops and/or supports quality comprehensive test programs.
Performs test ability evaluation (DFT).
Experience We’re Looking For
Typically requires 4 years of experience in test or failure analysis engineering in the high technology electronics industry or related area.
Demonstrates advanced functional and technical skills and basic process skills. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of the function and Flex business. Skill and troubleshooting, diagnostics, and overview of the entire test process and the ability to train others.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively communicate with managers and employees of the organizations.
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks such as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Impacts the near‑term (quarterly/semi‑annual) operational success of the function. Creates functional processes or technologies. Executes functional strategic plans and objectives at the site. Demonstrates experience in leading major initiatives and provides input to those initiatives.
Exercises independent judgment using ambiguously defined procedures and policies; may propose or provide input to defining methods, standards, policies and procedures. Makes decisions for sections/sub‑functions. Decisions may affect multiple sections/sub‑functions.
Normally receives no instruction. Demonstrates skills in teaching/leading and/or mentoring; may lead a team. Models appropriate behavior in support of Flex values.
