We are seeking a skilled
Controls Engineer
to join our team in a fast-paced
food manufacturing facility . The ideal candidate will design, develop, implement, and maintain control systems and automation solutions that ensure the safe, efficient, and high-quality production of food products. This role supports plant operations through troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and project execution while ensuring compliance with food safety and industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider).
Maintain and improve control systems on production lines, packaging equipment, and process systems.
Work with cross-functional teams (maintenance, production, QA, sanitation) to implement automation upgrades and process improvements.
Ensure control systems meet food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, FSMA, GMP) and regulatory compliance.
Manage and support instrumentation and SCADA systems across the facility.
Integrate sensors, actuators, VFDs, and other control devices into automated systems.
Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for electrical/control system failures.
Support commissioning and start-up of new production lines and equipment.
Create and maintain electrical and control system documentation (schematics, programs, change logs).
Collaborate with OEMs and contractors during installation, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
Train maintenance and operations staff on automation systems and best practices.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
Experience
3+ years of controls/automation experience in a manufacturing environment; food or beverage industry preferred.
Strong experience with PLC/HMI programming (Allen-Bradley RSLogix, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk, etc.).
Knowledge of food processing equipment and sanitary design principles is a plus.
Skills
Proficient in control system design, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance.
Familiarity with NFPA 70E, NEC, and industrial safety practices.
Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work in a team and fast-paced production environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with MES, SCADA, or data historian systems.
Knowledge of SQL databases and industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, etc.).
Familiarity with continuous improvement tools (Lean, Six Sigma).
