Critical Care Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - Duke Emergency Medicine. We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider in Durham, NC for Duke Emergency Medicine, which serves as a tertiary care center and Level 1 Trauma Center. The Emergency Department at Duke University Hospital includes an 18 bed Pediatric ED, three adult care areas, diagnostic imaging, an ambulance bay, a psychiatric emergency unit, and an evaluation unit. The Duke School of Nursing offers multiple advanced practice tracks and certifications with strong MSN/DNP programs. Ongoing learning for APPs through CME funding, APP Grand Rounds, and professional advancement programs. Opportunities to practice within team-based integrative care across many specialties; APPs are encouraged to work to the top of scope to support Duke’s missions including clinical practice, education, and research. Practice locations may include Duke Health’s three hospitals or over 140 clinics across North Carolina. Job Duties & Responsibilities
In collaboration with attending physicians, provide direct clinical services for critically ill patients according to established protocols and evidence-based standards. Perform triage, conduct exams, document data, perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order labs and diagnostics, prescribe interventions, coordinate care, and provide direct patient care services. Formulate and implement treatment plans for acute illness in collaboration with attending physicians. Analyze clinical practice patterns to improve medical care effectiveness and efficiency. Communicate pertinent patient information to supervising MDs, nursing staff, patient resource managers, home health agencies, and other providers. Document in the electronic medical record all relevant data, test results, patient status, and responses to therapies/interventions. Contribute to excellence in patient care, teaching, consulting, and provide leadership within the organization and the PA profession. Job Eligibility Requirements
Education : Nurses Practitioners – Master’s degree in Nursing; Critical Care/Acute Care NP Master’s or ACNP/CCNP post-master’s preferred. Physician Assistants – Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Certification : BLS required; ACLS required within 3 months of hire. License : Nurse Practitioners – NC RN licensure, BLS, NP national certification; Acute/Critical Care NP strongly preferred. Physician Assistants – NC license and NCCPA certification. DEA licensure required. Experience
Candidates must have at least two years of advanced practice Emergency Medicine experience or completion of a residency/fellowship in Emergency Medicine. Job Hours
