Overview
Equine Anesthesia Technician position at Bluegrass Equine Surgery (BES)/BESC. Hours: Tuesday–Friday, 7:00 AM–5:00 PM. Location: Hospital. Reports to: Lead In-House Surgical Tech, Surgeon. Department: Surgery. Compensation: Hourly. The In-House Surgical Tech assists the doctors with surgery. Responsibilities
General
Maintain clean surgery environment Model professionalism and ethical practices
Medical
Properly begin standard procedures according to doctor’s preference Clean wrap and sterilize packs Fill out surgery forms and anesthesia forms during surgery Calculate tranquilization Tranquilize surgery patients and place IV catheters Help with setup for surgery and positioning of patient for surgery Intubate patients, attach to monitor, and control the anesthesia machine Monitor patient during surgery Log controlled drugs Perform maintenance of anesthesia machine Take vital measurements on patients

Promote cooperative working environment among staff members; understand the value of teamwork; show enthusiasm and willingness to perform as necessary to help the practice function as a unit. Understand and carry out oral and written directions Maintain positive, cooperative relationships with other employees Promotes continuous quality improvement Performs other duties as assigned
Experience
Experience as an Equine Veterinary Technician Work exposure to all aspects of an equine business enterprise Ability to read horse body language and perform advanced handling of horses and foals Work well independently and as part of a team Understanding of the Thoroughbred industry, and the central Kentucky horse industry preferred Personal
Work under broad general administrative supervision of the owners and doctors, and use sound personal judgment in selecting methods, establishing priorities, and arriving at conclusions Be flexible in attitude and work habits Pay Range
