The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute has an exciting full-time opportunity for an Ophthalmic Technician 1 (OT1) at Lennar Foundation Medical Center in Coral Gables, Florida. The Ophthalmic Technician 1 (OT1) is competent in the theory, principles, and practice of eye care. JOB FUNCTIONS Performs and documents the following items in the electronic medical record. Reason for visit Tangent screen visual fields Chief complaint Basic ocular motility History of present illness Pupillary evaluation Basic review of systems Ocular surface assessment Review systemic and ocular medications Eye drop administration Record allergies Intraocular pressure such as Goldman, Tono-Pen, and I-Care Pharmacy information Pachymetry Family, social, medical, and ocular history Insertion and removal of hard & soft contact lenses Visual acuity at distance and near Color vision test Lensometry Stereopsis test Manual refraction Sensorimotor exam Confrontational fields Automated & manual perimetry Humphrey visual fields Virtual Reality (VR) visual fields Amsler Grid visual fields Provides support to providers which includes documentation in patient charts as required and directed for patient care. Provides patient-centric care. Adheres to University of Miami policies, standards, values, and required training. Complies with regulations and maintains patient confidentiality. Follows best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control. Attends educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned. Demonstrates high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness. Meets daily productivity goals. Ensures all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order. Participates in assigned clinical research and maintains required certifications. Organizes and stocks rooms for daily clinical activities. Travels to satellite eye centers when necessary. Works evenings and weekends as needed. Performs organizational duties as assigned. Completes IVI (intravitreal injection) prep for patients. Facilitates motility exams. Supports Virtual Care encounters and exams. QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School diploma or equivalent Certification and Licensing: Experience: 1 year of relevant experience Knowledge, Skill, and Attitudes: Works well with patients of all age groups. Presents with a professional appearance. Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing. Demonstrates outstanding interpersonal skills. Analyzes, organizes, prioritizes, and meets deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Completes assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Seeks instruction in areas that require additional knowledge. Works independently and in a collaborative environment. Displays basic knowledge of ocular anatomy, function, and motility. Demonstrates ability to perform the appropriate patient workup using the EMR telehealth platform. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
