Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
The UNC School of Medicine has a mission to improve the health and wellbeing of North Carolinians and others served. The UNC TEACCH Autism Program is housed within the School of Medicine. The program aims to create and disseminate community-based services, training, and research to enhance the quality of life for autistic individuals and their families. It operates multiple clinics, a residential and employment program, and maintains a strong research and training program. We are committed to leadership and excellence in patient care, education, and research, and to fostering diversity and sustainability in a respectful environment. We optimize partnerships with the UNC Health System and other School of Medicine programs. Vision: to ensure all autistic individuals and families have access to evidence-based services in their home communities.
The program provides evidence-based patient care, education, and research, with a focus on underserved populations and reducing disparities. Education aims to prepare clinicians and researchers through innovative curricula and diverse recruitment. Research emphasizes collaboration across disciplines and with community stakeholders.
Position Summary:
The University of North Carolina TEACCH Autism Program has positions for Psychologists/Clinical Faculty within multiple TEACCH regional centers across North Carolina. Selected candidates will hold a Clinical Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor (fixed-term) faculty position in the Department of Psychiatry, UNC School of Medicine. Positions may be located in Asheville, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Greensboro, Greenville, Raleigh, or Wilmington.
Clinical Faculty engage in clinical, research, and teaching activities. Clinical duties include maintaining a diagnostic and treatment caseload of autistic clients across the lifespan. Teaching includes supervising trainees, providing consultations, and training professionals locally and nationally. TEACCH faculty participate in community-based research on topics such as access to care for Black toddlers, transition to adulthood interventions, and mental health services for autistic adults and older adults. Research may involve clinical services on intervention trials or evaluation of research data with a large database. The exact balance of clinical, teaching, and research will depend on the candidate’s expertise and interests.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Completion of an APA-accredited Ph.D./PsyD in clinical, school, or related doctoral program, and completion of an APA-accredited internship. Must be licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist in North Carolina. Prior clinical training and experience in the assessment and treatment of autistic individuals. Salary commensurate with rank and experience.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Prior experience in an academic medical setting and/or working on a high-performing clinical team.
