Job Summary And Qualifications The Surgical Technologist Extern delivers high‑quality, patient‑centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services to support the efficient operation of the surgical suite. Under the supervision of the Circulating RN, the Surgical Technologist Extern assists the surgical staff in the perioperative process in accordance with the Surgical Technologist Extern’s skills/training and the needs of the Department and consistently assists the patient care team with maintaining a clean, well‑organized, and safe patient care environment. The Surgical Technologist Extern is currently enrolled and in good standing in an approved school of surgical technology and can perform higher‑level procedures once competency is achieved.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Circulating RN and Surgical Tech to organize the operating suite with instruments, supplies, and equipment needed for the day.
Review daily cases to ensure adequate stocking.
Ensure proper functioning of equipment/instruments prior to procedures.
Assist in creating and maintaining an orderly sterile instrument table. Utilize physician preference cards for efficient set‑up.
Assist in preparing for emergency and add‑on cases rapidly and effectively.
Assist with providing care and comfort for the patient throughout the perioperative process.
Transport patients to and from surgical suite as needed.
Aid in the transfer, positioning, prepping and draping of patients for surgical procedures in accordance with hospital standards.
Perform and/or assist in scrub/gown/glove process for self and team.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in an approved Surgical Technologist program (required).
Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
High School Graduate, GED, or equivalent.
