About the Job The Food Service Supervisor 2 will supervise the day-to-day operations of the Dining Department in assigned areas. Responsibilities include supervision and leadership, culinary production, customer service support, vehicle maintenance, food safety and sanitation, cost controls, purchasing, food and material storage, equipment maintenance, service systems, and quality control. The incumbent will provide department-wide support for auxiliary services for large campus events or whenever needed. Under deadlines and budget expectations, all Food Services Supervisors work together to ensure the success of the operation and serve as key members of Dining Services Management.

Key Responsibilities

General Supervision, Administration, and Customer Service: supervise, coach, motivate and direct staff and student Dining workforce; assign work, train and develop staff, perform evaluations, enforce policies, resolve complaints, schedule, hire, track time, and approvals.

Training and Standards: organize training, develop manuals, uphold customer service standards, implement personnel policies, advise on policy changes, assess safety risks, participate in hiring committees, and maintain customer relations.

Food Safety & Sanitation: ensure staff follow food safety standards; monitor and record temperatures; maintain HACCP-compliant practices.

Cash Handling/Operations Supervision: oversee service and product offerings for cost efficiency; adhere to accounting and purchasing policies; assist with financial analysis and reporting; manage cash handling and cashier training; ensure POS functionality.

Facility Maintenance: maintain equipment and facilities; schedule maintenance; train for emergencies; participate in pest control and zero-waste initiatives; manage vehicle upkeep and storage of supplies.

Cost Control: enforce budgets, analyze cost savings, reduce waste, and adjust menus based on pricing and demand.

Culinary and Production Support: ensure freshness and quality; monitor production; maintain recipe catalogs; assist in menu development and vendor relations.

General Management: coordinate with other departments; participate in staff development and safety programs; promote diversity and safety; support campus dining and auxiliary operations goals.

Purchasing and Merchandising: maintain par levels, oversee inventory, ensure quality and safety, coordinate deliveries with vendors.

Qualifications Education and Requirements

Bachelor's degree in related area.

3 years of directly related experience, or 7 years of related experience if no degree.

ServSafe Certification or equivalent certification (Preferred).

Critical Knowledge and Skills

Two years of university food service lead or supervisory experience (Preferred).

Working knowledge of safety and sanitation in food preparation per HACCP standards.

Marketing, merchandising and inventory management experience (Preferred).

Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook; basic math skills.

Effective communication in English; ability to work with a diverse group; bilingual in Spanish (Preferred).

Expert knowledge of dining operations; HACCP compliance; supervisory experience with staff and students.
