Description The SUE Party Chief leads a field crew and is proficient in supervising and performing Sub-Surface Utility Engineering (SUE) tasks. This role requires experience with Electromagnetic (EM) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) equipment. The individual in this position is accountable for the safety, training and overall direction of all crew members. The SUE Party Chief demonstrates strong decision-making skills and a deep understanding of sub-surface utilities. This individual will also play a key role in fostering a positive and collaborative working environment among the team. Duties and Responsibilities Lead SUE crew to perform Sub-Surface Utility Engineering services for both internal and external clients Communicate with project team members, client representatives, review agencies, and others as appropriate to the project. Responsible for operating equipment, ensuring crew members follow the proper protocols while operating equipment, and maintaining a safe work environment Maintain the overall quality of work with accuracy and thoroughness to meet regulatory requirements of the Company and Client Accurately and efficiently collecting field data and locating features Manage time effectively, organize, and work on multiple projects simultaneously in order to meet project deadlines and client needs Adhere to our core values of integrity, respect, quality, community, collaboration, and sustainability The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this job. Requirements 3–5 years of hands-on experience in locating underground utilities using Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) technologies, including Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Electromagnetic (EM) detection equipment. Minimum of 1 year of experience leading a SUE field crew with responsibility for safety, quality, and production. Proficient in the use of vacuum excavation equipment, total stations, and GPS survey instruments. Strong working knowledge of utility systems and infrastructure, including an understanding of how to interpret utility records and plans. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, and project stakeholders. Must exhibit strong organizational and relationship-building skills. Flexibility to travel for out-of-town projects, including up to 25% overnight travel. Valid Driver’s License with the ability to successfully pass a motor vehicle records (MVR) check. Ability to pass a drug screening. Proven problem-solving ability and sound judgment in dynamic field environments. Detail-oriented, technically skilled, and capable of maintaining spatial awareness and direction under field conditions. Committed to following established procedures and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. Physical Requirements Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions to perform fieldwork. Physical stamina to perform manual tasks, including lifting, digging, walking long distances and standing for extended periods. Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.
