King County Metro Transit’s Facilities Division
is hiring for a
Utility Line Worker
position. Utility Line Workers perform journey-level, skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the high-voltage trolley overhead and underground electrical systems, which are energized during maintenance activities. These positions may lead others within the same trade, and may supervise material workers and/or helpers on a temporary basis for specific projects. The role supports reliable transportation across King County. Responsibilities
Install, maintain, and repair overhead trolley equipment, including tracks, switches, circuit breakers, crossovers, and related hardware. Set and guy poles; assemble cross-arms, brackets, mast arms and related components. String wires and cables for electrical power distribution systems and transit power or control circuits. Install and maintain overhead lines and underground distribution; test, troubleshoot, and repair circuits. Splice wires and cables and install conductors in conduit or overhead wiring. Trim trees near overhead lines and perform inspection, maintenance, and service on rails and switchgear. Follow safety standards and read blueprints or design plans. Respond to emergency repair calls during non-working hours as needed. Perform the duties of a Line Worker/Cable Splicer as needed. May lead others within the trade, material workers, and/or helpers on a temporary basis for specific projects or assignments. Minimum Qualifications
Two or more years of journey-level Line Worker experience. Documented completion of a recognized Line Worker apprenticeship program encompassing high-voltage utility line work or a current Line Worker union card. Desirable Qualifications
Five or more years of journey-level Line Worker experience. Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and work with minimal supervision. Ability to work collaboratively in a culturally diverse environment and demonstrate inclusive behavior. Sound judgment, problem-solving skills, and the ability to stay professional in stressful situations. Commitment to safety and ability to operate power tools and equipment. Effective written and verbal communication and reliability in attendance. Special Requirements
Valid Washington State driver license or obtain one within 30 days of hire. Completion of a recognized Line Worker apprenticeship or a current Line Worker union card. Class Code / Pay Grade

This position is considered safety-sensitive. Applicants must undergo drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to other DOT-mandated testing protocols as applicable. Work Schedule
This is a non-exempt position eligible for overtime. Typical schedule is 40 hours per week and may include weekends, holidays, and non-standard workdays. Shifts include day, swing, and overnight shifts with seniority-based assignment and potential overtime for emergencies. A shift differential applies to swing and overnight shifts. Work Environment
Incumbents must report to the workplace in person and are not eligible for telework. Work involves heights (climbing poles), proximity to high-voltage lines, outdoor conditions in all weather, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Arc Flash protection is required during working hours. Selection Process
