Responsibilities Operates radiation therapy equipment to simulate and treat patients for malignancies. Completes documentation in medical records, performs charge procedures, and conducts quality assurance checks to verify procedure accuracy. Applies ionizing radiation to patients according to the Radiation Oncologist's prescription and instructions. ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Performs patient simulations under physician guidance, including patient alignment, portal marking, and documentation. Assists in fabricating and designing patient immobilization and treatment devices such as vaculocks, bolus, and aquaplast masks. Assists in dosimetry procedures, including obtaining patient parameters. Provides education to patients and families about simulation, treatment procedures, and possible reactions as directed by physicians or nurses. Observes patients for treatment reactions and reports findings to medical staff. Assists in emergency procedures as needed. Delivers prescribed radiation therapy, reviewing prescriptions, diagnoses, and medical records. Prepares treatment rooms and equipment, including immobilization devices, field size, treatment distance, and shielding. Defines and identifies tumor, target, and treatment volumes as directed by the Radiation Oncologist for treatment simulation. Administers therapy treatments, monitors responses, and reports adverse effects, reactions, and incompatibilities. Ensures doses to normal tissues remain within tolerance levels. Provides on-call duty as required. Monitors patient and equipment during treatment, reporting any issues such as movement or malfunction. Performs daily quality checks on treatment and simulation equipment, maintains documentation, reports variances, and initiates follow-up actions. Coordinates treatment schedules and records patient billing accurately. Participates in clinical education of radiation therapy students. Performs other duties as assigned.
