Responsibilities

Provides counseling to clients and their families to relieve emotional distress, clarify patient goals/priorities, expand social support networks in individual or group format, and find adaptive solutions to current life problems.

Collaborates with service providers and professional colleagues to better understand and address clients' psychological and social needs.

Maintains thorough written records of all counseling sessions, including comprehensive reports addressing presenting problems, current needs, and documentation of all relevant information/contacts while observing confidentiality laws and goals/objectives.

Identifies and analyzes counseling design, interventions, referrals, patient access processes, and related factors. Modifies approach to account for sensory impairments and needs of all customers. Recommends changes to improve service quality, effectiveness, and efficiency, and provides appropriate community referrals with follow-up to ensure access to care.

Job Accountabilities

Identifies ways to improve work processes and customer satisfaction; makes recommendations, and monitors results in support of department and Parkland goals.

Stays current with developments in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, participating in professional organizations, and maintaining certification/licensure; integrates knowledge into practice.

Maintains knowledge of applicable laws, policies, and guidelines; develops controls to ensure adherence to requirements and coordinates with internal/external stakeholders as needed.

Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree in Social Work or Counseling.

Experience: Two (2) years of counseling experience. Preferences: experience in perinatal mood disorders, women’s health issues, youth/adult mental health disorders, childhood/adolescent depression, ADHD, anxiety, trauma, substance use, or related areas. Familiarity with Behavioral Health integration within Primary Care; EMDR training/certification preferred for trauma-related disorders.

Licensure/Certification: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) OR Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) OR Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).

Skills: Knowledge of principles and techniques of mental health counseling; strong written and oral communication; ability to work with diverse populations; patient-centered approach; bilingual Spanish proficiency preferred.

Additional Notes Spanish proficiency is preferred.
