I. Major Responsibilities:

Carry out suicide risk assessments and interventions and provide psychosocial history and mental status assessments of patients at the University Campus and mobiles to off-site locations.

Conduct screening for a variety of behavioral health behaviors, conduct brief interventions, motivational interviewing, and refer patients to appropriate resources for education and/or treatment.

Assist with research-related project management. Collect research data and deploy research protocols. Engage in research activities, including data collection, project management, and providing research-related interventions.

Participate in the evaluation of health and education programs including wellness, nutrition, physical fitness, tobacco, and unintentional injuries.

Engage patients as appropriate in support activities related to behavioral and primary care.

Collaborate with providers including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other health care professionals.

Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; develop logical scope and sequence plans for health education programs.

Act as a resource in health education; apply appropriate research principles.

Assist in evaluating the utilization and impact of the BHS.

Identify additional resources for referrals and patient educational resources when necessary.

Adhere to UMass Memorial compliance policies, departmental guidelines, and all applicable laws and regulations.

Demonstrate use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.

Perform other duties as required or directed.

II. Position Qualifications: License/Certification/Education: Required:

Equivalent to high school plus two years of college, technical training, or related healthcare experience.

Preferred:

Bachelor's degree; Licensed mental health counselor, social worker, or substance abuse counselor.

Experience/Skills: Required:

Knowledge of the human services field; experience with DSM and/or ICD codes; data analysis skills; ability to establish rapport; excellent communication skills.

Preferred:

Experience in substance abuse treatment, healthcare, medical terminology, HIPAA regulations; ability to work independently; experience with electronic health records and Microsoft Office.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted where appropriate.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions: Work is sedentary; indoor office environment.
