Radiation Therapist II – $10k Sign On Bonus Under the general direction of the Chief Therapist, the Radiation Therapist level 2 contributes to the organizational plan of the Radiation Oncology Unit, the quality of patient care, and supports the organizational philosophy. Acts as a team leader to the Radiation Therapist level 1 and interacts with other areas of the department. Acts as a senior resource and coordinates technical activities under emergency or unusual situations in the absence of a Chief Therapist. Applies ionizing radiation to the patient, as instructed and prescribed by the physician, according to departmental standards, state guidelines, and Memorial Healthcare System’s policy and procedures.

Responsibilities

Performs CT‑Sim procedures, documents accurately, and executes simulations in accordance with department policies and procedures.

Prepares room and equipment properly for each simulation and monitors patient.

Performs complex special procedures (4D CT Respiratory Gating, HDR, TBI, SRS, SBRT, Oral and IV Contrast, Urethrogram) and monitors patient for adverse reactions, seeking assistance of a nurse or physician when appropriate.

May act as a Preceptor to Radiation Therapist level 1, serving as a main resource to radiation therapy students and/or new hires by role‑modeling professional behaviors, instructing, assessing and evaluating.

Performs and serves as resource to staff assisting with complicated high risk, low frequency procedures and treatments.

May act as a Charge Radiation Therapist to convey instructions of Radiation Oncologists, physicist and/or dosimetrist to appropriate personnel and ensures the instructions are carried out.

Interacts directly with medical physics staff and acts as a liaison between other healthcare professionals, identifying and immediately reporting equipment malfunction to Chief Therapist.

Participates in scheduled rotations in all department equipment, serves as emergency on‑call therapist, and, as needed, rotates between both Radiation Oncology departments.

Maintains flexibility and assumes all other additional responsibilities as assigned.

Manages patient scheduling in a technical area including simulations, field verifications, daily treatments, and cone‑downs to avoid delays or interruptions.

Prepares room and equipment properly for each treatment.

Performs imaging (CBCT, KV, MV, respiratory gating) as ordered to position patient.

Analyzes results, identifies issues and takes appropriate action including repositioning patient and repeating procedure to deliver therapy according to the treatment plan.

Performs special procedure treatments (HDR, TBI, SRS, SBRT) and completes treatment documentation.

Stocks and stores appropriate supplies in technical areas, informing Chief Therapists when supplies are needed.

Reviews physician’s orders and radiation therapy treatment plan.

Educates patient regarding procedures to ensure patient’s understanding.

Assists patient and family with any problems or concerns and refers to proper resource personnel, identifying and reporting potential liabilities and risk management to Chief Therapist.

Manages patient documentation in Aria for team communication, charge capture and billing reconciliation.

Prepares the treatment record information for set up and treatment.

Accurately performs weekly chart checks and QA audits at end of treatment through Encounters in Aria EMR.

Accurately captures and reviews charges for treatment and simulation procedures.

Collaborates with Physicians, Physicists, Dosimetrist, Chief Radiation Therapist in simulation or clinical setup process.

Presents set up questions and solutions while utilizing Crew Resource Management Principles and Practices.

Observes all established radiation safety measures (ALARA), performs appropriate quality control warm‑up procedures on equipment.

Troubleshoots, resolves, and reports equipment malfunctions to chain of command.

Maintains and completes monthly department data logs.

Qualifications

Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT LICENSE) – State of Florida (FL)

ARRT – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

BLS – American Heart Association E‑Card (BLS AHA ECARD)

Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience.

Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy Technologist program with an Associate’s degree in Radiation Therapy or Radiologic Sciences with Radiation Therapy Certification.

ARRT Registered Technologist – Radiation Therapy or ARRT Board Eligible, must pass within one (1) month of starting the position.
