The Director for Microbolometers is a leadership role in the Leonardo DRS Laboratory. This Director is responsible for driving the technical vision, strategy, and execution related to microbolometer-based focal plane arrays (FPAs) and camera systems for Leonardo DRS. In this senior-level role, the Director oversees research and development projects where the complexity of the technical problems requires advanced knowledge and scientific specialization in uncooled sensing. Responsibilities

Lead a team of scientists and engineers with expertise in microelectromechanical (MEMS) structures, material science, and computational modeling for uncooled sensing. Conduct research towards fundamental microbolometer performance improvements leading to new products and technologies. Design, model, conduct, and analyze experiments to understand and advance the performance of microbolometers. Write reports and present technical papers to win new business and strengthen the technical credibility of the company and laboratory. Communicate with internal leadership, industry partners, and government customers through technical papers, briefings, and regular dialogs. Develop and manage the scope, schedule, and budgets for research and development efforts including equipment, software, and personnel. Coordinate with external vendors and partners for technology-related projects, including foundries and academic laboratories. Maintain currency with industry trends and technological advancements in the field of infrared detectors and thermal imaging. Make strategic decisions aligned with leadership objectives, leveraging technology resources and organizational capabilities. Manage and mentor the microbolometer team and support the development of other scientists and engineers within the lab. Interact with technical management, other professionals, technicians, and support personnel to recommend and coordinate technical activities and progress. Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization. Qualifications

Specialties may include Device Physics, Material Science, or Engineering. Master’s degree in physical science or engineering discipline required; PhD preferred. A minimum of 15 years of experience. Expertise in MEMS design, layout, materials, process integration, and fabrication. Experience leading a team including direct reports. Travel: 10% of the time. U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DoD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
