Job Summary The Shapiro Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology develops molecular and cellular technologies to enable non-invasive imaging and control of biological processes. We are seeking a Research Technician to join our team and help us accomplish this research mission. The successful candidate will primarily focus on generating and culturing mammalian neurons, contributing to experiments involving neuronal cell culture, and assisting with laboratory operations. They will work closely with postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, our lab manager, our research scientist, and Prof. Shapiro. As part of their research project contributions, they may be awarded co-authorship on scientific publications. Key Responsibilities Generating and maintaining primary and induced stem cell-derived neuronal cultures. Assisting with experiments involving neuronal cells, including gene transduction and relevant biochemical analyses. Microscopy techniques, including fluorescence imaging, to characterize neuronal cultures. Data analysis and documentation of experimental results. Collaboration with team members and external collaborators on related projects. Laboratory Operations (25%) Assisting with research-related laboratory tasks, such as preparing biological reagents and maintaining shared resources. Restocking and ordering consumables and reagents necessary for neuronal cell culture. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or higher in Biology, Neuroscience, Bioengineering, or a related field. 1+ years of laboratory research experience, particularly in mammalian cell culture. Candidates with longer experience are encouraged to apply. Familiarity with standard biochemical and imaging techniques. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience with neuronal cell culture is strongly preferred. $18.50 - $24.75 Per Hour
