About Smart Infrastructure – Electrification and Automation The Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit offers the full range of energy distribution systems and solutions for all markets. Located in Wendell, North Carolina, our U.S. headquarters focuses on photovoltaic inverters, medium‑voltage power distribution equipment, and automation solutions.
Position Overview We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our Medium Voltage Switchgear team (covering both Gas‑Insulated and Air‑Insulated technologies). The role will be based in Wendell, NC, and is hybrid, combining office and remote work.
Key focus areas include support and design of SieBreak™ and 8DJH36 product lines, documentation, and manufacturing support.
Responsibilities
Serve as Electrical Engineering point of contact for Siemens MV switchgear product lines: SieBreak™, SieBreak VCB™, and 8DJH36 gear.
Design & Documentation: create all customer‑approved documents for Medium Voltage switchgear, including electrical schematics, panel arrangements, bills of material, nameplate schedules, three‑line drawings, and wiring diagrams.
Collaboration: work with Application Engineers, Project Engineers, and Mechanical Engineers throughout the project lifecycle.
Quality Gate: function as a quality gate prior to release of drawings and documentation to customers and factory assembly.
Deliverable Ownership: own the overall electrical deliverables from design to factory documentation, and provide factory support during manufacturing to ensure quality requirements are met.
Customer Support: provide technical support and clarifications to customers during FAT and other pre‑manufacturing activities.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
3+ years of proven experience drafting and designing electrical power distribution products and systems; preference for switchgear experience.
Strong working knowledge of protection and control technologies used in medium‑voltage distribution products.
Electrical drafting experience with E‑Plan, Engineering Base, ELCAD, or AutoCAD Electrical.
Ability to multitask and manage large workloads and business demands.
Self‑driven, detail‑oriented, system thinker, and process‑driven with a culture of quality.
Candidate ready to relocate to the Raleigh/Wendell, NC area.
Candidate has work authorization permitting employment in the United States.
Ability to travel internationally; trips to Germany required.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or power systems concentration (plusment).
Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL, and NEMA standards for MV Switchgear.
Experience with Siemens 8DJH36 & SieBreak product lines or equivalent types of switchgear.
Familiarity with product components such as VCBs, power fuses, CPT, CT, VTs, relays, controls, switches, arc flash fiber, and meters.
Experience creating and working with smart CAD blocks.
