is seeking a mid-level Protection and Control Engineer to join our Renewables Substation team. The primary function of this role is to lead the Substation P&C Engineering and Design efforts for large scale, transmission-interconnected renewable energy projects. The P&C Engineer will work with (and provide direction to) other engineers, designers, and drafters to develop project deliverables that satisfy all stakeholder requirements and comply with applicable codes & standards. Duties And Responsibilities Performs all aspects of P&C design for high voltage (4kV – 230kV) and EHV (above 230kV) substation projects to include: Development of all project drawings: One-lines Three-lines AC/DC schematics Relay panel elevation and BOM Control enclosure layout and BOM Equipment and Relay Panel Wiring diagrams Communication schematics and connection details Development of studies / calculations: Station service AC load calculations and transformer sizing Station battery / charger DC load calculations and sizing CT Saturation studies Voltage drop / cable sizing Assist with development of major equipment specifications Review equipment vendor submittals for conformance with specs and project requirements Review P&C deliverables completed by others Cross discipline checks with other substation / service leads Attend internal and external project meetings as needed Assist Project Engineer with procurement and construction support task Required Skills Requires a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from a recognized accredited program EIT Certification Required Experience Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from a recognized accredited program 4+ years work experience in high voltage substation P&C design Strong knowledge of substation zones of protection Typical protection and control schemes for: Transmission Lines, HV/MV Buses, Power Transformers, Cap Banks, etc. Relay manufacturers (make and model) Incorporating those relays in the design to achieve desired protection Familiarity with Substation major equipment and the specifications, schematics, and wiring thereof: HV and MV Circuit Breakers Power Transformers Instrument Transformers Disconnect Switches LV AC Systems (Station Service) LV DC Systems (Station Batteries / Chargers) Capacitor Banks Relay Panels & Control Enclosures Strong written and verbal communications skills Familiarity with industry standards and codes: ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NESC, NERC, etc. General knowledge of the industry and technology trends specific to substations Preferred Experience Professional engineering license or ability to obtain one within 2 years of hire. Previous experience in a consultancy environment Previous experience with large scale renewable energy projects General knowledge of relay settings / protection device coordination General knowledge of SCADA and communications systems General knowledge of substation construction practices Other Expectations This position is classified as in-office, full time. Preferred office locations: Austin, TX, Madison, WI, Raleigh, NC, Charlotte, NC, Other locations may be considered Compensation Range USD $90,000.00/Yr. - USD $120,000.00/Yr.
