Technical Writer
with a strong background in commercial and industrial electrical systems to develop, edit, and maintain technical documentation. The ideal candidate will work closely with engineering, product development, and field service teams to ensure that complex technical information is clearly and accurately conveyed to end users, installers, contractors, and internal stakeholders. This role requires a dynamic individual with a passion for technology, a commitment to delivering exceptional user experiences, and cross-functional collaboration. Responsibilities
Create, update, and maintain documentation for commercial and industrial electrical systems including: Electrical schematics Installation and maintenance manuals Product data sheets Safety and compliance documentation User guides and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) Translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and accessible content for both technical and non-technical audiences. Collaborate with electrical engineers, designers, project managers, and field technicians to gather information and validate accuracy. Interpret electrical diagrams, wiring layouts, and product specifications for documentation purposes. Ensure documents comply with industry standards (e.g., NEC, IEC, IEEE) and company formatting/style guidelines. Maintain version control and document change history in line with quality and compliance systems. Utilize tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Illustrator, Acrobat, Oxygen XML Editor, Arbortext, MS Word, AutoCAD viewer, Visio, or similar documentation and diagramming tools. Organize and maintain a digital library of all technical documents and drawings. Support training and marketing teams by providing technical content for presentations or customer-facing materials. Job Requirements
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field (required). 5–8+ years of experience as a technical writer in an industrial, commercial electrical industry. Familiarity with commercial/industrial electrical systems, equipment, and terminology (e.g., switchgear, transformers, MCCs, control panels, power distribution). Strong technical writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams. Proficient in documentation tools such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, MS Office, or similar platforms. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Additional Qualifications
Experience with standards such as NEC, UL, IEC, or IEEE. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), version control software, or PLM tools. Understanding of safety documentation (e.g., arc flash labels, lockout/tagout procedures). Exposure to field service environments or hands-on experience with electrical systems is a plus.
