Responsibilities

Develop new OBD strategies for engine propulsion control systems

Review system and software designs to ensure compliance and functionality

Generate and execute test plans for vehicle, test-bench, and virtual resources

Develop and validate compliant calibrations for future propulsion system programs

Work cross-functionally with:

Hardware development

Controls and software development

Program management

Test fleet support

Vehicle and compliance teams

Guide instrumentation of electrical and physical systems

Plan and schedule chassis dynamometer emissions testing

Utilize data from acquisition software (INCA) to ensure desired diagnostic behavior

Gather requirements and milestone dates to plan and execute development on time

Support product launch and validation activities

Travel 1–4 weeks per year for system validation and verification

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university

3 years or more experience in Powertrain systems calibration development, OBD calibration on spark ignition engines

Knowledge of internal combustion engines

Working knowledge of calibration tools (INCA / ATI), emissions regulations, and powertrain technologies

Fundamental knowledge in MatLab / Simulink

Outstanding problem-solving and analytical skills

Good teamwork skills and ability to work independently

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentations to upper management

Basic computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and database applications

Onsite at Chelsea Proving Grounds – 5 days a week

Preferred Qualifications

Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university

5+ years of experience in engine development, powertrain systems development, engine calibration, control systems development, or diagnostics within the automotive industry

Hardware-in-the-loop development/verification

Calibration process knowledge using design of experiments and advanced optimization techniques

Understanding of CARB diagnostic regulations

Proficient in advanced simulation tools

Proficient in MatLab / Simulink

Knowledge/understanding of CAN communication protocols
