Overview
Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer role at Rivian (via Jobs via Dice). Located in Plymouth, MI. You will be part of the Powertrain CAD/Design team, providing CAD/Design support for Drive Unit (DU) programs and advanced engineering projects. You will lead 2D/3D CAD requirements to support design changes, development projects, and CAD studies. Preference for a candidate with Dimensional Engineering skills to support 3D tolerance stack analysis; training and project execution may be pursued if not currently possessed. Reports to a Technical Manager.
Responsibilities
Parametric 3D mechanical design of component parts, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies for Rivian Drive Units and advanced projects in CATIA Create 2D drawings for component parts, sub-assemblies, and Drive Unit Assembly Drawings (DUADs) using ASME-Y14.5 and GD&T in CATIA Ensure Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) integrity and manage all product configuration data in ENOVIA Generate CAD illustrations of assemblies and exploded views for assembly instruction documentation Perform 3D packaging studies considering package envelope, system performance, and manufacturing feasibility Collaborate with DREs and cross-functional teams (CAE, EE, manufacturing engineering, vehicle packaging, systems engineering) Support and participate in Design Reviews Create and maintain documentation to support product releases and change management Perform part and assembly 3D tolerance stack analysis and provide feedback to product/manufacturing engineering teams
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience using CATIA (V6 preferred) Experience with ENOVIA PLM or equivalent DFM knowledge for Machined Die Castings, Plastic Injection/Molded Parts, Gears/Bearings, Bolted Joints, etc. Ability to apply DFA for manufacturing of power electronics and vehicle integration Strong knowledge of GD&T and its application to part manufacturing and assembly tolerancing Proficient with Microsoft Office or Google productivity applications Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work in a fast-paced environment Understanding of EV propulsion system components/subsystems preferred CAD & GD&T proficiency with Transmissions/Drive Units preferred Able to apply DFA for manufacturing of powertrain drive units and vehicle integration preferred Expertise in 3D tolerance stack analysis; 3DCS preferred
