Daikin Applied is seeking a
Principal Engineer – Electrical Systems
who will act as a “Product Agency Expert” covering electrical system and electrical component integrity in the Product Integrity Department on behalf of Daikin Applied America (DAA). Location:
Hybrid, Plymouth, MN; Faribault, MN or Staunton, VA What You Will Do
Act as the DAA liaison covering applicable agency, regulatory and industry bodies. Communicate within DAA the status of assigned external standards. Network within DAA functional areas to glean the company needs and opportunities with the external bodies Work with internal product teams (product managers, engineers, supply chain, etc.) to document and educate DAA personnel on regulatory requirements, guide compliant design, and verify targets and validate compliance Provide project technical leadership by coordinating cross functional teams through the defined steps of the Daikin Applied New Technology Introduction and New Product Introduction development processes Develop, implement, and improve processes to ensure agency, code and regulatory compliance are integral parts of the product design, development and sustaining engineering workflows Participate in effective application of engineering excellence processes and techniques (DFMEA, PFMEA, DOE and DVP&R, FEA, DFM/A, Technical Design Reviews, Risk Assessment, Program Gantt charts, SCRUM, etc.) to ensure timely product compliance, delivery and cost objectives Communicate alternative means of compliance that are being used by others or that may be suggested in the future with forecast changes to the compliance roadmap Lead investigations or audits covering product compliance, risk assessment, risk mitigation, root cause investigation, remediation and permanent corrective action Provide expert support, engineering coordination and counsel to DAA Legal in support of litigation action, including providing testimony and verifying written discovery responses for DAA as needed Participation in the succession planning process and active mentoring of potential successors Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET program or equivalent Demonstrated continuing education accomplishments 10+ years’ experience with product change processes that deliver adherence to requirements stemming from agencies that include regulatory bodies, industry trades and technical associations Demonstrated depth of skill and knowledge in design processes applicable to the assigned technical space, with the ability to apply it to the delivery of legacy and future DAA HVAC equipment Success in product compliance to industrial standards & regulations Broad understanding of business practices Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functional areas and project partners Track record of on time delivery Engineering fundamentals in the assigned area of responsibility Process mapping, authorship, implementation, and life cycle management Product change management Project planning / execution / risk assessment / mitigation Design/Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA / PFMEA) Verification and Validation of product performance Product non-conformance, turnback and escape Excellent communication skills; written, verbal, presentation Travel domestically and internationally 35% of the year Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position Preferred Qualifications
Professional license(s) or applicable certification(s) Advanced degree(s) in engineering or advanced degree(s) in business Experience with agencies associated with the assigned area of responsibility Experience acting as a subject matter expert in a matrix environment Experience working with multiple sites 5+ years leading a team of product engineers Demonstrated history of being a mentor / career coach Experience in strategic product positioning Engineering design and analysis tools such as CAD, circuit design and analysis, programming languages (C+/C-Sharp), Building Controls (BacNet, etc) Microsoft Office applications; MS Project Benefits
Daikin Applied offers the following benefits for this position, subject to applicable eligibility requirements: Multiple medical insurance plan options + dental and vision insurance 401K retirement plan with employer match Paid time off and company paid holidays Paid sick time in accordance with the federal, state and local law Tuition Reimbursement after 6 months of continuous service The typical annual base salary for this position ranges from $130,400 - $219,100 plus a 25% bonus in Minnesota and Virginia. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Seniority level
