About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced PostgreSQL/PGD Operations Engineer (L3/Senior) to join our team. In this role, you will be the guardian of our critical database infrastructure, ensuring its health, performance, and availability. You will be a key player in a high-impact environment, directly responsible for keeping mission-critical systems running smoothly. Responsibilities Maintain the health, availability, and performance of our PostgreSQL/PGD environments. Manage database failovers and lead incident response, owning the runbooks and processes to ensure a swift and effective resolution. Perform performance tuning and optimization to meet high-scale, low-latency demands. Rapidly scale out new database builds across multiple regions. Participate in an on-call rotation to provide timely support for production issues. Qualifications Required Skills & Experience Extensive Production PostgreSQL Experience: You must have deep expertise in database operations, performance optimization, and implementing High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions. PGD/PDR Expertise: Proven experience with bi-directional replication using PostgreSQL/PGD/PDR is essential. Cassandra Operations: Strong operational knowledge of Cassandra for high-scale, low-latency workloads. RDBMS & NoSQL Fundamentals: A solid understanding of database fundamentals, with the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve replication and availability incidents. Linux Operations: Proficiency in Linux environments for day-to-day operational tasks. On-Call Discipline: Experience and a calm demeanor for handling production incidents. On-site Presence: You must be able to work on-site in St. Louis. Preferred Skills Familiarity with legacy Db2/mainframe systems and card-network transaction patterns. Experience with multi-region rollouts and production change management for regulated or mission-critical systems. A strong automation and observability mindset, including experience with runbooks, scripting, and metrics to reduce Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR) and increase build throughput. Seniority level
