PLC Controls Engineer II
BEPC is actively looking for a PLC Controls Engineer II in the Mason, OH area. This is a W2 contract role for 6 months with possible extensions, offering $45.00 - $50.00 per hour, determined based on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. The role requires extensive travel (~90%) and is onsite in Mason, OH when not traveling. The successful candidate will support the commissioning and testing of automated material handling systems, including high-speed sortation, scanning, and merging applications. Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: Assist in PLC programming, HMI development, and system commissioning. Support project scope, schedule, and deliverables. Collaborate with internal and external engineering teams. Participate in BUAT/UAT/FAT testing and post-installation support. Contribute to customer training and troubleshooting. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field. Up to 4 years of experience in controls engineering or material handling projects. Exposure to Allen-Bradley PLCs and Wonderware Aveva Edge (or similar HMI platforms). Interest or experience in post and parcel operations is a plus. Travel: Extensive travel required (~90%). Office Time: When not traveling, work is onsite in Mason, OH. Hours: 40–60 hours/week depending on the project phase. Preferred Qualifications: Software Tools: Studio 5000, RSLinx, AutoCAD Electrical, B&R Automation Studio. Networking: Ethernet/IP, Profibus, WCS integration. Other Tools: Ignition, SOPAS, SST Profibus Config Tool, Datalogic DataMan. Candidate Questions: Description of a recent commissioning project involving sorters, conveyors, or MDRs using Allen-Bradley PLCs and Wonderware Aveva Edge (or similar HMI), including key challenges and solutions. Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC platforms and HMI features in post and parcel operations, including applications during commissioning. Approach to troubleshooting unexpected behavior in PLC-controlled sortation or scanning systems. IoT validation and system readiness process in a parcel distribution center, including steps to minimize disruption to live operations. Safety protocols and documentation practices followed when commissioning controls and HMI systems in live environments.
