Staff Electrical Engineer - Substation Design

The Opportunity In this role, you will have the opportunity to: Function as a mid-level engineer or technical specialist in substation design. Substation design encompasses distribution, sub-transmission and transmission level voltage classes.

Develop electrical design deliverables, including protection and control design (protective relays) and/or physical design.

Interface with clients, vendors and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Standards: Stay current on departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures

Quality/Continuous Improvement: Apply knowledge to assigned tasks and support continuous improvement efforts

Engineering Production: Prepare a variety of moderately complex engineering deliverables

Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection

Collect, assimilate, and manage data for engineering work

Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods

Understand and adhere to budget, schedule, and quality requirements

Identify and resolve problems within the assigned area

May provide direction and guidance to others

Project Coordination: Coordinate with internal/external team members on less complex projects

Initiate contact with other disciplines as needed to coordinate details

Client Focus: Understand client interests and drivers through client contact and interaction with project leadership

Apply understanding of client interests to performance of work

May support business development or pursuit activities

Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology: Share current knowledge of latest technology and processes

People Management - (supervision, career development, training, mentoring): May assist with performance management, mentoring, recognition, and corrective actions

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited program

Minimum of 3 years related work experience

Pre-employment onboarding requirements may include background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search

Preferred Qualifications HV Substation Design experience – Physical and/or Protection & Controls

Engineering-in-Training (EIT) Certification

Learning on the Fly, Problem Solving, and Communication skills

Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and standards related to the discipline
