The Department of Corrections is seeking a dynamic and driven Utility Plant Operator to join our physical plant team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for overseeing an inmate work crew in the performance of tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler plant equipment at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Greene. Guide an inmate work crew in the maintenance and operation of boilers, generators, and related equipment under normal and emergency conditions. Utilize manual and automatic control operation systems while reading and interpreting gauges and sensing devices. Perform scheduled and non-routine maintenance and operational assessments, as well as cleaning and maintaining equipment to ensure proper functionality. Operate and maintain auxiliary equipment such as pumps, draft fans, control equipment, and ash systems. Work independently to analyze problems and implement technical decisions to ensure continued operation of plant equipment. Work Schedule and Additional Information
Full-time employment, 40-hour work week. Work hours are 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, as institutional needs dictate, with rotating pass days and a shift differential of $1.25 per hour. This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement. You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Additional Requirements: Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
