Job Title: Estimating Engineer

Position Overview The Estimating Engineer will support the delivery of competitive, accurate, and timely bids for complex heavy civil construction projects. This role focuses on quantifying construction elements, analyzing design documents, and collaborating closely with the estimating team to prepare detailed takeoffs and cost data.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using PDF plans, CAD files, and 3D models for scopes such as demolition, earthwork, roadways, aviation, school facilities, and underground utilities.
Calculate cut/fill volumes using average end area methods and generate quantity data.
Create and maintain Excel spreadsheets for material quantities, review contract documents, and document takeoff assumptions.
Identify scope gaps and produce visual exhibits or markups to clarify inclusions or exclusions.
Collaborate with other estimators to ensure consistency and completeness of quantity assessments.
Support bid preparation by organizing PDFs, running bids, and managing subcontractor or vendor quotes.
Manage time effectively, assess task complexity, and track takeoff timelines.
Required Qualifications
Proficiency in reviewing construction drawings and project specifications, including general arrangements, plans, elevations, topographic site plans, grading plans, typical sections, detail drawings, and cross sections.
Strong engineering math skills to accurately measure, calculate, and convert material volumes.
Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, including complex formulas for end areas, volumes, and material quantity summaries.
Analytical ability to create and validate advanced mathematical formulas for area and volume calculations.
Experience with digital takeoff tools such as AGTEK, On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar (preferred).
Prior experience on or estimating for design-build heavy civil construction projects (preferred).
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in heavy civil construction, estimating, or related fields.
