Responsibilities The candidate selected for this role will be working at Orion Space Solutions, a subsidiary of Arcfield. The engineer selected for this role will have a broad range of responsibilities to execute. In general, these responsibilities will encompass the range of thermal design & analysis tasks required to support the development of small satellites, cube sats, payloads, electronic units, GSE, and other sensing systems.

This role will require the engineer to work cross-functionally and identify needs from other engineering and programmatic groups. In addition, they will be required to tackle open-ended analysis problems that require pro-active communication and problem-solving.

In general, the engineer will be required to support the following tasks:

Design thermal control systems for spacecraft and payloads

Provide design input to ensure electronic units close thermally

Execute thermal analyses

Perform first-principles calculations throughout the design cycle

Execute FEM thermal models (ie ThermalDesktop) to support detailed analyses

Generate and present analysis documents to both internal and external parties

Provide feedback and input to cross-functional teams

Provide thermal input to help guide preliminary & detailed designs

Provide thermal feedback on how to correct any design non-compliances

Provide thermal input during test planning phases and process review

Support & design environmental test campaigns

Proactively identify inefficiencies or issues with analysis processes and propose / implement solutions

Specify thermal hardware and support quoting efforts

This specific opening is looking for an individual who has enough experience to operate autonomously, and requires little guidance to define their own analysis tasks based on high-level programmatic requests.

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering or computation field plus 8-10 years, MS plus 6-8 years or PhD plus 3-5 years professional working experience in thermal engineering positions

5+ years of professional working experience in the space industry

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance

Experience in Thermal Desktop, proficient in basic thermal principles

CAD Modeling Experience

Equal Pay Act This is the projected compensation range for this position. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
