Overview We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Sr IT Manufacturing Execution Systems Engineer to join our team. The Sr IT MES Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of Manufacturing Execution Systems based on the Siemens Opcenter platform. This role is critical for developing robust MES architectures that connect manufacturing operations, provide real-time production visibility, and integrate with broader enterprise systems to drive operational efficiency and digital manufacturing initiatives. This role offers the opportunity to leverage the full potential of Siemens Opcenter to shape next-generation manufacturing execution systems that combine traditional MES reliability with modern digital manufacturing capabilities.
Responsibilities
Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of Siemens Opcenter solutions across manufacturing operations.
Design and develop comprehensive MES system architectures using Opcenter, including production workflows, quality modules, and manufacturing intelligence dashboards.
Lead technical evaluation and selection of shop floor hardware, manufacturing equipment interfaces, and industrial communication technologies.
Architect scalable and secure MES networks with redundancy and high availability.
Design production data collection strategies and manufacturing databases that support real-time analytics and operational intelligence.
Develop standards for MES configuration, workflow design, and manufacturing system integrations to ensure consistency across operations.
Create detailed system specifications, architecture diagrams, and technical documentation for MES implementations.
Lead integrations between MES and enterprise systems (ERP, PLM, quality management systems).
Provide technical leadership for MES implementation teams and act as escalation point for complex manufacturing system issues.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; Master’s degree is a plus.
2-3 years of experience designing and implementing MES systems required; 5+ years preferred.
Deep technical knowledge of Siemens Opcenter, including modules such as Execution, Quality, Intelligence, RD&L, and Connect MOM.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production workflows, shop floor data collection, and industrial protocols (OPC UA, MQTT, etc.).
Experience with manufacturing databases, historians, and real-time production data management.
Experience architecting high-availability MES systems with redundancy and disaster recovery capabilities.
Experience deploying Opcenter in virtualized environments with fault-tolerant architectures and load balancing.
Experience using Opcenter for manufacturing analytics and advanced reporting; familiarity with Mendix low-code for custom applications is a plus.
Experience using Opcenter as an integration platform to connect MES data with ERP, PLM, quality systems, and other enterprise applications.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and in a team.
