Overview
Title: Ground System I&T Engineer Location: Northridge or El Segundo, California Duration: long term contract Compensation: 55-60/hr Work Requirements: US Citizen, GC Holders or Authorized to Work in the U.S. Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be involved with many aspects of the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of satellite ground station antennas in outdoor, datacenter, and lab settings including Ground System HITL and Spacecraft HITL. Design and fabricate mechanical, electrical, RF, optical and copper cable and harness/metal components; manage equipment logistics. Travel occasionally to set up remote ground gateway antenna system sites, install, troubleshoot and maintain equipment. Design and build ground gateway communication systems; participate in all development phases (site survey, system design, hardware selection, hardware integration, end-to-end testing, site activation, maintenance, and operations). Design, build and operate hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) for ground gateway antenna systems, support equipment racks, and interfaces to flight hardware and other development environments. Configure, operate and maintain ground gateway support equipment, antenna stations and sub-systems. Lead hardware selection, system integration, testing, and troubleshooting of ground gateway communication support equipment rack hardware and software. Create schematics and BOMs for test systems and mission-critical sub-systems and the entire system. Procure hardware, components, consumables and parts; manage inventory including spare parts. Oversee production, testing, quality control, and logistics/shipment of ground system hardware. Interface with customers, suppliers, manufacturers, internal/external integration & test engineers, RF engineers, network engineers, technicians, and others. Strong understanding of RF fundamentals. Hands-on experience across applicable disciplines. 5+ years of industry experience in design and implementation of RF systems and system-level communication architectures. 5+ years of hardware experience with spacecraft, ground stations, IT/networks, and other communication systems. Strong RF system-level experience. Experience with Protocase design, hardware assembly, and testing. Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills. Strong knowledge of main network protocols and services (e.g. IP, TCP, UDP, DNS, SNMP, NTP, DHCP, VPNs). Experience working with government organizations (USAF, NASA, FAA, FCC, NTIA, etc.). Experience with RF test equipment: VNA, VSG, Channel Emulator, GPS Simulator. Experience developing link budgets and other engineering calculations related to system specification and design. Experience with satcom equipment and RF parts including BUC, LNB, LNA, Coupler, SDR, ACU, RF antenna feed, RF filters, and other RF components. Experience with LEO, MEO, and/or GEO satellite ground stations related engineering experience. Experience with high voltage AC power (110V - 480VAC), DC power (3.3VDC-48VDC), UPS, PDU, Battery modules, ATS, Power Generator. Experience developing tools in Python or Matlab in the use of Visio or other CAD software to develop system schematics. Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to travel to and work at remote sites supporting test integration, commissioning, and training as required. Solid fundamental knowledge of networks, electronics, math, engineering, and physics. Creative problem solving, engineering, and design with exceptional analytical skills. Ability to work independently and in a team in ambiguous settings, take initiative, and communicate effectively. Experience with Linux and Windows server administration. Experience with Atlassian Tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket. Excellent communications skills with the ability to communicate with internal/external customers, vendors, management etc. in both formal and informal situations. Physical effort including standing, lifting and carrying moderately heavy materials or equipment up to 50 lbs. Willing to get hands dirty and take extreme ownership to take projects to the finish line per deadlines. Be able to handle multiple projects in parallel. Benefits
