What To Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Controls Engineer to support factory ramp-up and contribute to designing robust and stable equipment. This engineer will work at the forefront of controls technology, focusing on advanced cell manufacturing equipment for Tesla’s 4680 batteries.
The Controls Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycle, working closely with Quality and Production to transition from initial design and prototyping to full production.
What You'll Do
Ramp manufacturing lines including automation equipment, robots, electromechanical systems, PLCs, motion controls, and vision systems.
Program state machines for complex processes involving multi-station processing, automation, data acquisition, and PID control.
Manage safety standards (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA) and implement safety controls for robots, gantries, conveyors, and other equipment.
Define and maintain a methodology for PLC code structure and backups.
Interface with Tesla’s Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to communicate product acceptability, machine status, and process variables.
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's Degree in Controls, Computer Control Systems, Computer Science, Mechatronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related experience.
5+ years of hands-on experience as a Mechanical/Manufacturing Controls Engineer working on automation or electromechanical systems.
Proficiency in IEC 61131-3 programming languages, especially structured text and ladder logic.
Experience with Beckhoff, Omron, Siemens, B&R, and/or Mitsubishi.
Experience with Human Machine Interface (HMI / GUI) systems like AB Panelview, Ignition, TIA/WinCC, B&R, etc.
