Mechanical Design Engineer III
Join ZIM Aircraft Cabin Solutions to develop innovative passenger aircraft seating solutions that meet FAA, customer, and ZACS standards of quality. Responsibilities
Provide technical support for seating programs and perform feasibility studies for ZACS proposals. Develop design data for manufacture, assembly, and installation of aircraft seating assemblies and components. Conduct fastener selections, tolerance studies, weight and cost assessments, and preliminary engineering analyses for aircraft modifications. Review design data produced by less experienced Design Engineers and mentor them. Interface with other ZACS departments to ensure customer and ZACS requirements are met and attend design review meetings. Support ZACS Manufacturing during manufacturing, assembly phases, and installation of seats by airframe/customer. Develop expertise with aircraft seat design concepts and industry design and test standards and support other engineering groups as workload requires. Qualifications
BS Degree in Engineering or related field; five years industry experience in passenger aircraft seating design preferred. Three years proficiency in SolidWorks or comparable CAD program. Knowledge of FAA regulations, certification processes, and aircraft component materials, fabrication practices, and aviation hardware. Experience with stress analysis, finite element modeling, 3D computer modeling, and other analytical substantiation techniques. Strong oral and written communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Ability to travel domestically and internationally (10–20%). Preferred
Ten years industry experience or Master’s Degree with eight years experience in passenger aircraft seating design. Physical Requirements
Normal office environment; 70% sitting, remaining time walking and moving around office area. Ability to maneuver around airplanes and work on industrial environment with extreme temperatures and loud noises. Typical bending, stooping, reaching, stretching with lifting limited to 10–20 lbs. Normal or corrected hearing and vision required. Seniority Level
